The Manitoba government has appointed one new member to the General Insurance Council of the Insurance Council of Manitoba, Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced today.

“The Insurance Council of Manitoba regulates agents, brokers and adjusters to promote high standards of professionalism, competence and integrity in the insurance industry,” said Fielding. “Grant Rerie is a licensed adjuster who will bring expertise to the board in its work to support the public interest.”

Under The Insurance Act, the council may issue or refuse a license; attach limitations or conditions to a license; investigate complaints regarding agents, brokers and adjusters; cancel or suspend a license; and fine or assess costs.

Rerie (Winnipeg) joined the General Insurance Council effective Oct. 10. He is the Manitoba regional manager for SJ Kernaghan Adjusters Ltd. His areas of expertise include property damage, claims investigation and human resources, and his community experience includes volunteering with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
