Top 10 selling two-wheelers: Entry volume drops by 40% to 44,000 units


In a first in many years, sales volume to make it to the elite list of top 10 selling two-wheelers has shrunk to less than 45000 in August 2019. Earlier, the cut off of those who made it list was about 70,000 units has which dropped by 40 per cent to 44,000 units in August 2019, reveals an industry data accessed by ETAuto.

Last month Suzuki’s Access and Bajaj Auto Platina placed at 9th and 10th positions recorded a total wholesales o f 48,646 units and 44,774 units respectively. Last year, same month tenth position was grabbed by Bajaj Pulsar with a dispatch of 70,051 units.

The overall two-wheeler segment reported a decline of 22.24 per cent to 1,514,196 units in August which is much evident in top 10 two-wheelers too. Nine out of ten models reported a strong double digit dip in domestic sales. Bajaj’s Pulsar at fifth spot remains the only model that witnessed a marginal increase at 70,562 units as against 70,051 units in the same month a year ago.

With sales of 234,279 units, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India’s Activa held the pole position, pushing its arch rival motorcycle Hero Splendor to the second position.

The sales for Splendor saw a year on year decline by 14 per cent last month at 212,839 units.

Apart from Splendor, HF Deluxe and Glamour were another model by Hero which made to the top 10 selling list at third and fifth positions by selling 160,684 units and 60,706 units, respectively.

While TVS Motor’s Jupiter retained its seventh spot at 57,849 (-27%), XL Super which was at ninth rung in August last year, climbed to eight by selling 55,812 units (-21%).
